Creating & Managing Rubrics
Detailed instructions for creating rubrics can be found here. In addition to creating Rubrics, you can create revisions or copies, as well as archive them.
Revising Rubrics
Revisions are made to rubrics in Waypoint for numerous reasons. When a revision has been made, any assessors who began an assessment with the old rubric will receive a prompt telling them to update their rubric. Otherwise, the rubric will automatically update. Waypoint keeps a version history of all revised rubrics so you can easily view an older version at any time.
To create a revision of a rubric in Waypoint:
- Log into Waypoint.
- Click on the Design tab.
- From the Rubrics page, navigate to and locate the rubric you wish to revise.
- The rubric's status must be Published. This is defined under the Status column on the Rubrics page.
- Click on the name of the rubric. This will open the Review step of the Rubric Wizard.
- In the bottom right-hand corner, click on Create a revision.
- This will start the Rubric Wizard over again and place you at the first step, Getting Started.
- The main difference now is that you will be able to view the Revision History located beneath the Description text box. You can click on the Assessment Name to open a preview of the rubric. This can be used to see changes made to previous versions of the rubric.
- Make changes to the rubric where you see fit.
Once you reach the fourth and final step, Review, click on the Publish button when you are finished. The new version of the rubric is now ready to be used to assess student work.
Copying Rubrics
You can make a direct copy of a rubric you have already published or one that you are actively building. To make a copy:
- Log into Waypoint.
- Click on the Design tab.
- Locate the rubric you wish to copy.
- Hover over the Actions button to the right of the rubric name and select Duplicate Rubric.
- You will receive a confirmation window - click Duplicate.
- The copy of the rubric will appear on your Rubric List, highlighted in yellow. The rubric name will contain a "_DUPLICATE" tag which you can remove after you open the Rubric Wizard.
Archiving Rubrics
In Waypoint, users with the "Design Rubric" permission, can easily archive and unarchive the rubrics and rubric folders they own, to improve organization and workflow efficiency.
To archive rubrics:
- Log into Waypoint.
- Click on the Design tab.
- Locate and select the rubric folder which contains the rubric you wish to archive.
- Hover over the Actions button to the right of the rubric name and select Archive.
- You will receive a confirmation window - click Archive.
- The archived rubric will now appear under the "Archive" tab, in a folder of the same name. To view all active folders and rubrics, click on the "Active" tab.
NOTE: If a rubric was previously linked to an assignment, users can continue to assess against the rubric but will be unable to associate it with any new assignments. Currently linked, archived rubrics will appear with a strike through when accessed via the rubric management window and will no longer be available for selection. Once archived, rubrics will no longer be available for revising, sharing, copying, or linking to new assignments - for both rubric "Owners" and shared users.
To archive rubric folders:
- Log into Waypoint.
- Click on the Design tab.
- Locate the rubric folder you wish to archive.
- Hover over the Actions button to the right of the rubric folder name and select Archive.
- You will receive a confirmation window - click Archive.
- The archived rubric folder (and all of its associated rubrics) will now appear under the "Archive" tab. To view all active folders and rubrics, click on the "Active" tab.
NOTE: Once archived, all rubrics within the folder will no longer be available for revising, sharing, copying, or linking to new assignments - for both rubric "Owners" and shared users.
To unarchive rubrics and rubric folders:
- Log into Waypoint.
- Click on the Design tab
- Click on the Archived tab
- Locate the rubric folder (or open the folder to access individual rubrics) you wish to archive.
- Hover over the Actions button to the right of the rubric or rubric folder name and select Unarchive.
- You will receive a confirmation window - click Unarchive.
- The unarchived rubric and/or rubric folder will now appear under the "Active" tab
